The Liberty Bell Award honors individuals, including, non-practicing lawyers, and/or community organizations that have shown an extraordinary commitment to justice or provided outstanding service to the local community.
The Foundation of the New Haven County Bar is the charitable arm of the New Haven County Bar Association. Established in 1989, the Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization through which local attorneys, other legal professionals and community members serve the needs of the Greater New Haven area by providing financial support to organizations that promote justice, assist the needy, and contribute to the greater public good through grants and law- related public service programs. Over the years, the Foundation has provided funding to critical organizations in New Haven County including New Haven Reads, LEAP, IRIS, The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, New Reach, and the Yale Sappern Memorial Fund. The Foundation is also a strong supporter of the New Haven Bar Association’s national award winning L.A.W. Camp, a four day camp for high school students with the goal of increase diversity in the legal profession, as well as, Politics Matter, a program to increase the participation of youth in politics. The Foundation also administers the Martha Sullivan Tribute Fund and the Thomas J. Witt Memorial Children’s Book Fund. The Foundation has donated over $250,000 in the past 10 years.
The 2019 Liberty Bell Bash will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, 170 Whitney Avenue, New Haven. The award recipient is Jocelyn Maminta. Enjoy a “Taste of New Haven” with complimentary food, wine and spirits provided by local restaurants, breweries and cafes.
